I would agree that not much has changed since this book was published. HOWEVER.... now we have the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign kicking off https://www.cilip.org.uk/general/custom.asp?page=GreatSchoolLibraries I think everyone working together and shouting about how important school libraries are will gather support and get school libraries and their part in raising literacy levels on the national agenda.
I think over the last couple of years more teachers are reading more and newer children's fiction, and so appreciate the need for a well stock school library. They post on social media and can play a vital part in the campaign. So I am hopeful that great things will happen. But it only will if we all shout up and advocate on behalf of school libraries.
Thanks for making us think Elizabeth.
Hello all! Thank you Elizabeth for allowing me to join the conversation. I did not have a chance to read the title but I look forward to following your discussion and reading future selections.
5. The theme running through this whole book is ‘if children have access to a well stocked library literacy will improve’ after countless initiatives it looks like not much has changed since this book was written. What more, in your opinion, can we do?
4. In Clare Wood’s chapter How Children begin to Read she covered the influence of technology in a positive way. Do you think that this idea has changed in any way since the book was written?
3. As this book was all about many different strategies/initiatives to engage reading what, if any, have you implemented. Are there any in this book you would like to adopt/adapt? Why? Why not?
2. Did this book surprise you in any way? Did it cover the topic you were expecting and as fully as you would have hoped, if not what was missing?
1. Have you read much written about this topic before? If so, does the author bring something unique to the subject? If not, did this book pique your interest in the subject?
Getting ready to start at 7pm. Remember to say hello but more importantly put the number of the question you are answering at the beginning e.g. A1... I will post question 1 here at 7 so we can get started. Thanks for joining me.
