[@Stephanie] I read “Crusades” and we had Dan talking about it to our students - fascinating to look at it from the perspective of normal people.

I agree, teachers see us as people supplying topic books - a very antiquated view. It is an uphill struggle to let them see what we can offer; and a long process in itself. However, after just one session with our 6th Formers about school's resources and research, I heard that the quality of their work and cited resources definitely improved, so I have hopes for the future.

I think this would have to be written into the curriculum and the time given for following the steps leading to more independent inquiry; otherwise I can't see that happening.

Not as a whole school co-ordinated program; individual teachers might touch on it while assigning research projects, but I have no real way of knowing who does that and how often. My long-term plan is to start talking more to staff about what I can offer and how I could contribute to lessons/research projects.

@Arlen Kimmelman I know what you mean! I sometimes feel people think I’m just showing off, when all I want to do is help them get the necessary info!!!

I actually really value the time spent on cataloguing - it allows me to familiarise myself with the stock; how will I know what e-resources are about if I don’t read the blurb, abstract or just handle it?
But if I had more time, I would like to run more research skills sessions and some creative writing workshops. And research , Of course.

It is very difficult, I agree, but it should be a part of our professional CPD. Twitter and other social media outlets are good places to hear about new technologies and their potential, but again, the time to research and learn how to best use them is the problem.
